Tehran, Nov 3, 2008: Iran’s tourism industry has the ability to help sustainable development of the country’s economy, given its unique potentials.

Expressing this, deputy head of Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organization for investment and projects affairs, Mehdi Jahangiri said that economic activities in tourism, handicrafts sectors and cultural heritage are more satisfactory than other fields.

Stating that negotiation with the investors tops the organization’s agenda, he further said, "We do not mean foreign investors; rather we believe that Iranian investors’ potentials are higher than their foreign counterparts."

Referring to holding the second international seminar on opportunities for investment in tourism on November 8-9, Jahangiri said that some 500 successful foreign investors have been identified and invited to take part at the event.

Stressing the need to attract foreign capital in the tourism sector, he further said that continuation of the trend should be accompanied with a scientific view.

"For the same reason, we intend to develop tourism software, policy making and amend the laws to that effect," he said.

Describing transportation as another effective sector in tourism, Jahangiri said that during the seminar, several agreements are scheduled to be signed with a number of ministries in the field.
